Ⅳ.Reading Comprehension  (30 points)
Passage One
Almost everyone knows the meaning of Mr, Mrs and Miss. Mr is used before the names of men. Mrs is for married women and Miss is for single women. But what is Ms?
For some time, businessmen in the United States have used Ms before a woman's name when they do not know whether the woman is married or not. Today, however, many women prefer to use Ms rather than Mrs or Miss. The word Mr does not tell us whether or not a man is married. Many women think this is an advantage for men. They want to be equal with men in this way. These women feel that it is not important for people to know whether they are married or not.
There are some problems with Ms. however. Not all women like it. Some like the older ways of doing things. Some find it difficult to pronounce. (Ms sounds like "miz".) Generally, young women like it better than older women do. It is difficult to know whether or not Ms will be used more American women in the future. What do you think of this change?
31 、The word Ms can  be used before the name of______.
A、a married woman;                   B、an unmarried woman;

B、they think themselves as good as men;
C、the word sounds more pleasant than Mrs does;

34、From the passage we can learn that the word Ms appeared ______.
A、before Mr, Mrs and Miss;          B、before Mrs and Miss, but after Mr;
C、after Mr, Mrs and Miss;           D、after Mrs and Miss, but before Mr
35、Which of the following statements is true according to this passage?______.
A、More and more American women will accept the use of Ms in the future;
B、Ms can be used for both married and unmarried women;
C、Ms is the Short form of Mrs;
D、Men like to use Ms better than women do

Passage TWO

It doesn't matter when or how much a person sleeps, but everyone needs some rest to stay alive. That was what all doctors thought until they heard about Herpin.
Herpin never slept. Could this be true?
Herpin was 90 years old when the doctors came to his home in New York. They thought for sure that he got some sleep of some kind. So they stayed with him and watched every movement he made. But they were surprised. Though they watched him hour after hour and day after day, they never saw Herpin sleeping. In fact, he did not even own a bed. He never needed one.
The only rest that Herpin sometimes got was sitting in a comfortable chair and reading newspapers. The doctors were puzzled by this strang continuous sleeplessness. They asked him many questions, hoping to find an answer. They found only one answer that might explain his condition. Herpin remembered some talks about his mother having been injured several days before he was born. But that was all. Was this the real reason? No one could be sure.
Herpin died at the age of 94.

A、who was interested in reading;       B、who was old and sick;
C、who never needed any kind of rest;         D、who lived in America
37、The doctors were interested in Herpin because_______.
A、he was said never to sleep;              B、he was really a stranger;
C、he could live longer than many others;    D、he often puzzled scientists
38、The doctors came to see Herpin______.
A、and attend his birthday party;            B、and cure his sleeplessness;
C、to make sure whether he was sleepless;
D、to find out why old people need very little sleep
39、The only rest that Herpin seemed to get was______.
A、talking to his mother;
B、sitting in his chair and reading;
C、answering questions raised by the doctors;
D、recalling his past experiences
40、Which of following may serve as a possible reason to explain Herpin sleeplessness?______.
A、He was in good health;
B、He was over 90 years old;
C、His mother had been injured in a car accident before he was born;
D、His mother had been injured a few days before he was born
