Mrs. Jones gave music lessons at a school. She had a good voice and enjoyed singing, except that some of her notes, sound like a gate that had been forgotten to oil. Mrs. Jones knew her weakness well, and took every chance she could find to practice these high notes. As she lived in a small house, where she could practice without disturbing the rest of the family, she usually went for a long walk along the country roads whenever she had time and practice her high notes there. Whenever heard a car or a person coming along the road, she stopped and waited until she could no longer be heard before she started practicing again, because she was a shy person.One afternoon, a fast car came up behind her so silently and so fast that she didn’t hear it until it was only a few yards from her. She was singing some of her highest and most difficult notes at that time and as the car passed, she saw an anxious expression come over its driver’s face. The driver stopped his car suddenly, jumped out and began to examine all its tyres carefully. Mrs. Jones didn’t dare to tell him what the noise he had heard really was, so he got back into the car and drove off.

A long time ago there were no donkeys in Gui Zhou. One day a merchant from another part of the country went there and took a donkey with him . Later the donkey got sick and the merchant left it behind and  went on his journey. When the donkey was well again, it ran away into the nearby forest.

The tigers in the forest thought that the donkey was a strange animal and they were afraid of it. Whenever it brayed they all ran away as fast as their feet could carry them.

After a few months, the tigers became friendly with the donkey. They played games with it, but they were still afraid of it.

One day the donkey became very angry, It kicked one of the tigers with its hind legs. The tigers were very surprised. “That must be all it can do when it is angry,” they said. Then all the tigers jumped on the donkey and killed it.
